A Normal Spark: A Natural Consequence of Physics
An electric current always seeks to complete the circuit as quickly as possible. When you bring a device’s plug close to an outlet, just millimeters before the metal prongs make contact with the conductive contacts inside the outlet, the voltage jumps to the other side by piercing (ionizing) the air.
If the power button on the device you’ve plugged in is already in the “On” position, or if the device draws power the moment it’s plugged in (such as laptop adapters), this rapid current demand is momentary, small, and blue It creates a spark. When the plug is fully inserted into the outlet, contact is made and the spark disappears instantly. This is usually a normal reaction of the system.
Warning Signs: Which Sparks Are Not "Normal"?
